The Adams State University Department of Music presents a Music Faculty Collage Concert at 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 29, in Leon Memorial Hall. Admission is free.
Faculty performances will include William Lipke, piano; Tracy Doyle, flute; James Doyle, percussion; Angela Winter, horn; Matthew Valverde, tenor; Lancer Hardy, bass; Alyssa Powell, clarinet; and visiting scholar from Gunma University in Japan, Chiho Sugo, clarinet. They will be assisted by Tyleen Stults, piano.
After the concert, there will be a reception welcoming new and renewing Friends of Music members in the lobby of the Music Building. Chair of the Music Department Beth Robison said Friends of Music is a group of dedicated music lovers who provide much needed funds to support the Music Department in artistic events and enrich student learning for future music educators and performers. In 2015-2016, Friends of Music helped provide music scholarships to music majors, brought guest artists to campus, supported student travel and opportunities for artistic and community outreach, and assisted in providing a vital and inspiring learning environment for music students. "They have proven vital to the flourishing of the arts at Adams State University and in the San Luis Valley," Robison said.
This year, the Music Department added six service chamber ensembles to provide service to the campus, community and educational outreach, as well as providing relevant and practical experiences for music majors, preparing them for careers in the music industry. "We are also implementing a new program, ETHOS: Exploring Equity Through Music, which is an overarching, multi-year program addressing equity and diversity issues in the programming of our music ensembles and the development of new curricula," Robison added.
