Volunteers help build a home for Habitat for Humanity during the 2016 ASU Cares Day.

Fall semester at Adams State University means it is time once again for the annual ASU Cares volunteerism events. ASU Cares is among the many ways the university encourages its students, faculty and staff to engage within the community in a spirit of service.

San Luis Valley organizations and community members are invited to campus for ASU's Volunteer Recruitment Fair. The fair is from 10 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 12, at the Japanese/American Memorial Garden. Participating agencies will host informational booths and have the opportunity to meet one another, talk with students, and recruit volunteers. ASU clubs will be selling a variety delicious food items. The Volunteer Fair inspires a feeling of community and serves to inform new students of local needs and services. Some of these connections may result in volunteers who will continue serving with an agency over months or years.

ASU Cares Day will be observed on Saturday, September 16. SLV agencies are invited to request volunteers for a short-term project to be completed on that day. Past projects included tree planting, animal care, office tasks, and more. Projects that engage volunteers directly in the mission of the organization and develop skills are especially needed and appreciated.

If you are a SLV nonprofit agency wishing to register for the fair and/or submit a project for consideration, or if you are a prospective volunteer, register online at ASU Cares. Call the ASU Center for Civic Engagement and Career Services at 719-587-8105 for more information or to register by phone.
