The Adams State University Chamber Choir and the Valley Community Concert Choir will come together to perform a concert titled, “Listen to the Children: The World from their Perspective,” at 7 p.m. Friday, Nov.1, in Richardson Hall Auditorium. The performance explores various views of childhood from innocent playfulness to mature introspection to the cruelties we inflict on our children.
The program will include children’s songs from South Africa and Japan, Michael Bussewitz-Quarm’s “My Name is Lamiya: Don’t Call Me Refugee,” Kurt Bestor’s “The Prayer of the Children” and Gregory Bartholomew’s setting of excerpts from Kofi Annan’s 2001 Nobel Peace Prize Lecture, “A Girl Born in Afghanistan.” Other selections will speak to the hope and community that we want for our children. Dr. Matthew Valverde, tenor, will be a guest soloist.
The concert is $5 for adults, $1 for students and seniors, and free to AS&F and Friends of Music. For more information, please call 719-587-7621.
