Marli Crowther, the first recipient of the Porter Realty Scholarship, will use the financial assistance to pursue an interdisciplinary degree with an emphasis in food studies at Adams State University. “I am forever grateful for the opportunity they have given me to further my studies by awarding me the Porter Realty Scholarship.”
Preston, Mike and Mary Ann Porter established the scholarship. “We hope by offering scholarship money to deserving individuals we will show a commitment to higher education from the business community, reward hard work, and signify our desire to give back to the community that has given us so much,” Preston Porter said.
Preston Porter took over the family business, Porter Realty, in 2012 when his parents retired. Mike and Mary Ann, Adams State Class of 1986, continue to support Adams State. Although Preston earned his degree from a different institution, he appreciates having a hometown university and values education. “College classes teach you how to think and employers know college graduates bring new ideas to a company.”
The Porter Realty Scholarship award of $1,200 will assist Crowther in continuing her education at Adams State. She appreciates the University for the educational environment, the proximity of the college to her home, and for the Food Studies program. This new program is an academic exploration of the importance and impact food has on all aspects of human existence: health and wellness, economics, business, environment and sustainability, food production, and social and cultural.
The Porter Realty, Inc. Scholarship Endowment requirements include a minimum 3.0 GPA, full-time student status, and recipients must be at least a sophomore during the award year.
