Adams State University Theatre proudly hosts the Creede Repertory Theatre production, “Prima’s Guide to Funerals,” at 7 p.m. September 10, 11, and 12 on the Theatre Building SLV Federal Bank Main Stage. Tickets are currently on sale at theatre.adams.edu. The September 10 performance is sold out, but tickets remain for the other two dates.
The comedy by Leonard Madrid was commissioned and produced as part of the Headwaters New Play Program. Directed by Yesenia García Herrington, it has proven to be hit with audiences during CRT’s 2024 summer season.
“Prima’s Guide to Funerals” is about three cousins (primas), an urn, and one really long day. It’s the day of her mother’s funeral and Arcie is losing her grip. But her cousins Nando and Clara are having none of it. A fast-paced and hilarious play set along the waters of the Rio Grande in the San Luis Valley of Southern Colorado, “Prima’s Guide to Funerals” tells the story of family, laughter, grief, love, and finding yourself alongside the ones who know you the best: your primas.
“This is the second year in a row that we have partnered with Creede Repertory Theatre to bring one of their productions to Adams State,” said John Taylor, Ph.D., director of the School of Visual and Performing Arts. “It is a wonderful opportunity for our theatre students to be exposed to professional theatre and it brings award-winning entertainment to Alamosa.”
Due to some spicy language and mature themes, the production is recommended for age 10 and older.
Tickets are $30 for general public, $25 for Adams State faculty and staff, and $10 for Adams State students. Tickets can be purchased at theatre.adams.edu. The in-person box office will open September 2. Beginning on that date, the discounted tickets for faculty, staff, and students may be ordered through the Box Office at 719-587-8499.
