The fifth annual Southern Colorado Film Festival will take place from October 13 through October 15 in collaboration with Adams State University Community Partnerships. The festival invites all filmmakers to submit their work for consideration by August 1. Submissions are accepted online through Film Freeway.
The 2016 theme, BORDERLESS, intends to inspire a diverse conversation about cinematic expression. The festival will screen works that display a wide range of regional, national, and international points of view. In addition to screenings, the festival will incorporate panels, workshops, and juror insights. With Rocky Mountain panoramas to surround it, the San Luis Valley is an ideal setting for filmmakers and festival enthusiasts alike.
The festival will have a new award structure for 2016. For the first time in festival history, jury and audience honors will receive cash prizes. Themed awards, such as the Chupacabra Award, the Old Mose Award, the Green Chili Award, and the Snippy Award, will be given. The Film Festival is excited to announce the film jury members this year. The jurors include:
Donald Zuckerman, who moved from LA to Denver to work for Gov. John Hickenlooper, secured a competitive film incentive for Colorado. He put the state back into the game of attracting more film production. A long-time Hollywood executive producer, Zuckerman’s more recent projects include Rush Lights (Beau Bridges and Aidan Quinn) and Casino Jack (Kevin Spacey).
Anna Cosentine is executive director, founder, programmer and in charge of marketing, acquisitions, public relations, and grant writing, of the Taos Shortz Film Fest, Taos New Mexico. She is a submission judge for the documentary and live narrative sections at the Mill Valley Film Festival and Starz Denver Film Festival and worked as event coordinator for 6 years for the Taos Mountain Film Festival.
Bryan Konefsky is a self-taught cultural worker and media activist. He is the founder and director of Experiments in Cinema international film festival and the president of Basement Films (a non-profit arts organization based in Albuquerque). Konefsky is a Senior lecturer in the Department of Cinematic Arts at the University of New Mexico where he teaches production and critical studies courses that range in topics from experimental to world cinema. Konefsky has lectured about alternative cinematic practices in countries such as Argentina, Cuba, Germany, Korea, Russia, Scotland, and Serbia. Konefskyʼs creative work has been presented internationally in museums, universities and film festivals.
Mariel Rodriguez-McGill is an Emmy Award-Winning creative producer, director and editor focused on documentary filmmaking with a passion for telling inspirational and compelling stories. Currently at Rocky Mountain PBS in Denver, Rodriguez-McGill helped develop the web-series Great Ingredients, and the historical documentary series Colorado Experience, which will launch its fourth season fall 2016. Mariel received a BA from Boston College and holds a master’s degree from University of Denver in media, film and journalism studies.
