SLV Behavioral Health clients explored self-expression through the lens of a camera. Lindsay Toman, an intensive case manager for New Beginnings, a program of SLV Behavioral Health, and Adams State University Assistant Professor of Art O. Gustavo Plascencia designed a photographic project for clients to learn about photography and explore different aspects of their life. Clients, provided with disposable cameras to document their lives, explored ideas of serenity, fears, home, and support systems. One of the participating clients said, "This project gave self-worth."
This photo and others, the final outcome of this collaborative project, will be on display during the First Friday Art Hop on Friday, June 5, at the Alamosa Presbyterian Church, located on the corner of 4th St. and San Juan St.
"With this project, the clients got to have a voice and tell the world how they feel about their own lives," Plascencia said.
Toman said: "My clients were given the opportunity to explore a creative outlet and learn skills that will benefit them for the rest of their lives." SLV Behavioral Health and Adams State appreciated the opportunity to raise awareness of behavioral health realities.
