SLV STEAM Shop hosts Open House on October 15

The SLV STEAM Shop Maker Space, located behind Ortega Middle School, will host an Open House from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 15. The event is free and open to the public.

Featured tools for the open house will include the 60 watt laser cutter and the ROSTOCK Max 3d printer. The STEAM Shop will welcome any ideas for other sharable tools.

The STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering/Entrepreneurship, Art and Mathematics) Shop, a collaboration between Adams State University and the Alamosa School District, provides a space for makers of all kinds to come together and share tools, skills, ideas, anecdotes and fun.

According to George Sellman, Adams State assistant professor of computer science, a "maker" is anyone who wants to make something. "This can be a product for a new business, a work of art, a model railroad train, a toy, cloths, a grilled cheese sandwich or just something you need to fix. Come by and see what the SLV STEAM Shop can help you make and talk to our members about how."

There will be signs in the Ortega Middle School parking lot directing visitors to the STEAM Shop. For information, contact Sellman at gwsellma@adams.edu.
