Star Wars raises moral and metaphysical questions within that galaxy and in ours. The Adams State University Faculty Lecture, Star Wars and the Good Life, by Dr. George Backen, professor of philosophy, begins at 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 4, in Porter Hall room 130.
Is it morally inconsistent for the Republic to outlaw slavery, but fight with an army of clones? Are droids conscious? If so, how should they be treated? Is Star Wars without George Lucas’ involvement just fan fiction? Does fandom, especially when motivated by nostalgia, lead to the good life? These and other questions will be addressed.
All ASU Faculty Lectures in the series are free and open to the public. Complimentary light refreshments will be offered. For further information on the series of lectures, contact Dr. Kristy Duran, associate professor of biology, at 719-587-7767, or klduran@adams.edu.
