Retired from the military and current English instructor David Wreford, along with Dr. Nick Saenz, assistant professor of history, will present during the 2015 Last Lecture. The event begins at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 9, in McDaniel Hall room 101. The discussion is free and open to the public. Free refreshments will be served.
Wreford, who has written many humorist columns, titled his presentation, "Three Things That Still Matter," which will cover three basic areas: integrity, connections, and trying. Wreford said he thought about what he would like to tell students that they might find worthwhile based on his 63 years of life. "People don’t seem to think so anymore, but I believe that integrity still matters. Whether people are guided by religion or humanism, integrity is a goal worth pursuing. The more connections students make, with each other, with their professors, with their peers, with their subject matter, and with their university, the better off they will be. Finally, students must not be afraid or embarrassed to try. All too often, students are too proud of getting by without trying. Trying, really trying, makes a difference." His goal is to make these points using plenty of funny stories and examples.
Saenz completed his second year at Adams State, in the spring of 2015. The title of his lecture is "E(last)ic Scho(last)ic: Musings from the Trenches of the Last Discipline." In the tradition of the ‘Last Lecture,’ Saenz will offer his reflections on living and learning. Topics will range from the battlefields of life to the life of the mind and offer a few thoughts on the nature of a life well lived to the last.
