“Tip-A-Cop” at Chili’s to support Special Olympics

Members of local law enforcement agencies will take the notion of "Protect and Serve" to another level Sunday, July 10, during Colorado Chili’s restaurants’ Tip-A- Cop campaign to benefit Special Olympics. The event runs from noon until 8 p.m. at the Alamosa Chili’s Restaurant, Hwy 160.
Events for area Special Olympians are frequently coordinated by students in Adams State’s Department of Human Performance & Physical Education.

Partnering in the event are the Adams State University Police Department, Alamosa Police Department, Alamosa Sheriff’s Department, and the Colorado State Patrol. Special Olympics athletes will partner will officers to greet guests, showcase their medals, and accept donations from patrons.

Last year’s Alamosa event raised $3,625, fifth highest of Colorado’s 35 Chili’s locations, noted Adams State Police Chief Paul Grohowski. "This is a great event for all of our law enforcement agencies and supports a great charity, continuing our legacy of giving back to the community we serve," he said. "Basically, we will work in conjunction with wait staff, filling water glasses, bringing meals to the tables. It gives our officers a great sense of pride and purpose within our community. It is actually a good deal of fun."
