Dating, laughter, and romance for Valentine’s Day week. A perfect romantic treat. The Adams State University Theatre Department presents two one-act plays just in time for the heart-filled holiday. “Courting 101” and “Check Please” begin at 7:30 p.m. nightly through Feb. 15, in the Xperimental Theatre.
“Check Please”, written by Jonathan Rand, and directed by Travis Romero, is about the absolute worst of dating and the absolute absurdity of the dating world. “Each character on stage is looking for love and they want to fall in love, but is love really worth it when the person across from you pretends you’re not even there,” said Romero. “Check Please is a perfect little comedy for your Valentine’s Day woes. Maybe a show about bad dates will help you find your perfect match.”
Romero’s favorite part of directing was working with like-minded people and creating good times in the space while working towards a shared goal. “Having these nine actors all together and all contributing was wonderful.”
“Courting 101”, written by Yuri Baranovsky, is directed by Madeline Bush. The one-act is a short, crisp, play, whose plot includes a professor lecturing about dating as he has two students act through absurd scenarios. “At the performances you will witness an evening of embarrassment during the worst dates possible and the laughter found in those moments,” Bush said. “During my four years here, the Adams State Theatre has rarely opened a second-semester season with such raucous comedies.”
Bush appreciated the collaboration with her cast. “My cast is one of the most cohesive I have ever worked with. It has brought me great joy to work on this project and I hope you enjoy watching the show as much as I have enjoyed pulling it together.”
The Theatre Box Office is open from 2:30 p.m. until 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. For tickets and information call 719-587-8499.
