Take a water class
Continuing the success of WATR 101 during the fall semester, Adams State University will offer its second course in the water studies minor beginning in January 2025: WATR 201–Water Fundamentals and Functions.
Taught by local Division of Water Resources Engineer Kevin Boyle, WATR 201 will teach participants how to evaluate water rights, quantify water demand and consumptive use, and better understand how change of water right applications work in Colorado’s water court system. Class members will participate in real-life scenarios as they develop a water supply plan for a business proposal.
The course will meet from 2:30 p.m. until 3:45 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays on the Adams State campus and will also be offered online. In addition to being available to Adams State students, high school students seeking concurrent enrollment may enroll through their high school counselor.
Community members may also audit the course for only $150 to deepen their water knowledge and engagement in the vital issues around water.
As water is quickly becoming the defining resource challenge of the 21st century, it is essential that communities understand where their water comes from, how its managed, and how to protect it for future generations. WATR 201 is an excellent resource to build this awareness while developing knowledge and skills for in-demand careers.
