Career Workshops

Adams State University Career Services offers a series of drop-in workshops each month for students and alumni. Each workshop is carefully designed to address common career-related concerns and questions. Workshops typically are 50 minutes long. Check out the scheduled workshops for this Spring 2018 Semester!

Veterans Club Sponsored: Resume & Interview Workshop

Veterans Club and Career Services are coming together to give you tips and tricks to writing a stand out resume! We will spend a little time sharing resources to help transition a resume from military to civilian terms, and will focus on highlighting transferable skills to sell yourself as a great fit for your next position.

Exploring Graduate School  

Join us as the Office Of Graduate Studies gives an overview of the Graduate School process. Some of the topics covered will be:

  • Researching programs and deciding which is right for you
  • Finding and understanding admissions requirements

 Interview Prep! Company & Industry Research: Hands on Workshop

Before you go on a job interview, it's important to find out as much as you can- not only about the job, but also the company and industry. Research is a critical part of interview preparation. In this hands on workshop, Jeff Bullington, Director of Library Services will share his knowledge of conducting company and industry background research - showing you valuable resources to help you prepare for your job search!

Conversation with Non-Profit Leaders: Considering Non-Profit Careers

Considering a career in Non-Profit work? Join some amazing SLV Community Organizations to learn more about career possibilities in the non-profit sector. Community Partners will discuss the difference between for-profit and not-for-profit organizations, will share about the path that got them to their current positions, and will give advice to students who might be interested in starting their own organization.

Finding and Applying for Jobs in the Federal Government

This free online virtual presentation provides an overview of USAJOBS, the official website for Federal Government employment.  The briefing provides a step-by-step process that covers

  • creating your account and profile
  • managing your account
  • searching for Federal jobs and maximizing search results & reviewing Job Opportunity Announcements
  • Submitting your applications and following up on your application status.

Writing Your Federal Resume

A Federal resume is quite different that a resume you might use to apply to other corporate positions. This presentation explains each section of the Job Opportunity Announcement (JOA) in an effort to better inform applicants and to assist them in selecting the right job. The presentation highlights a three part process to assist applicants in writing their Federal resume. Attendees will be shown a real JOA and walked through reviewing the JOA to determine qualifications and interest, identifying the important requirements and then tailoring their resumes with that JOA. Lastly, it will provide a quick overview of the resume builder on USAJOBS.

Pathways Programs- Recruiting and Hiring Students and Recent Grads

A focused presentation that introduces the audience to the Pathways Programs (Internships, Recent Graduates and Presidential Management Fellows (PMF)). Information presented covers what each program offers to the job seeker, the basic requirements and employment potential after each program is complete.
